Long before Real Time Recovery became part of Unbroken, Icelandic CrossFit athlete Björgvin Karl Guðmundsson gave us the words to describe what he was experiencing.
Björgvin Karl Guðmundsson knows what recovery means at the highest level of sport. Years of elite CrossFit competition meant high training volumes, multiple sessions and very little time to recover before the next demand.
When Björgvin first tried Unbroken, he was skeptical.
“From the first day I tried Unbroken, I noticed the difference.”
He noticed less soreness after training, but what stood out was something more immediate. He felt the difference while he was still training.
Between sets and intervals, Björgvin felt he could recover quickly enough to push again.
“Between sets and intervals, I recover so quickly that I can push myself harder than before.”
The words that stuck
It was Björgvin who gave that experience a name.
“For me, Unbroken is Real Time Recovery.”
Real Time Recovery.
Three words that captured something fundamental about Unbroken: recovery nutrition does not have to be something you think about only when the training is over.
For an athlete moving between sets, intervals and sometimes multiple sessions in the same day, recovery is happening in real time.
The phrase stuck.
Today, Real Time Recovery has become part of how we describe Unbroken and what it was created to do: support recovery before, during and after activity.
Built into the training day
During his heaviest training periods, Björgvin incorporated Unbroken throughout his day: in the morning, around his first training session and again following a second session.
That became particularly valuable during training camps, when the window between one demanding session and the next could be short.
“During intense training camps, Unbroken makes an enormous difference.”
There was another reason it worked for him: simplicity.
No shaker. No protein powder. Just a tablet dropped into water and ready to drink.
For an athlete training several times a day, that mattered.
Still part of the routine
Björgvin's relationship with Unbroken has evolved over the years, but he still uses the product today.
And the words he gave us have stayed with us.
Real Time Recovery began as one athlete's description of what he felt during some of the hardest training of his career.
Today, it defines something much bigger.
Recovery that starts while you're still moving.
Real Time Recovery. Ready for what’s next.
