Recovery that keeps you in the game

Recovery that keeps you in the game

Consistency at the highest level demands more than showing up. In 2024, at age 30, Breiðablik captain Höskuldur Gunnlaugsson played every minute of all 27 league matches, completing 2,430 minutes on the pitch, and was named MVP of Iceland’s top football league. Here, he shares how Unbroken has become part of his daily routine to support recovery, hydration and staying ready for the next game.

Consistency on the pitch

Football places constant demands on the body. Training, matches and a long season mean recovery isn't something that happens occasionally. It needs to be part of the everyday routine.

Few players demonstrate that consistency better than Höskuldur Gunnlaugsson, captain of Breiðablik.

For Höskuldur, staying ready means paying attention to the small things that can make a difference over an entire season. Nutrition, hydration, sleep and recovery all form part of that approach.

Unbroken has been part of his routine for years.

Always looking for the extra percent

Höskuldur first discovered Unbroken through a friend and decided to try it for himself.

What started as an experiment became a consistent part of his routine.

"I'm always trying to find ways to become a better player, finding the percentages that can help me go further."

That focus on small improvements is particularly important in professional football. One training session or one match is only part of the picture. The challenge is recovering and being ready to perform again.

For Höskuldur, Unbroken became one of the tools supporting that process.

"Unbroken has helped me in my recovery, both physically and mentally."

Recovery throughout the day

Höskuldur doesn't think about recovery only after a match.

He uses Unbroken consistently throughout the day, typically taking it three to four times daily, including around training and matches.

His routine can include Unbroken:

Morning • Before training • After training or matches

The compact format makes it easy to incorporate into a demanding football schedule.

Unbroken starts with fresh Norwegian salmon protein. Through extensive enzymatic hydrolysis, the protein is broken down into approximately 60% free-form amino acids and 40% di- and tripeptides.

Because much of the work normally required to digest intact protein has already been done, Unbroken provides compact amino acid nutrition with minimal further protein digestion required.

This gives athletes the flexibility to use Unbroken before, during or after activity.

Recovery can start before the start line.

Hydration is part of the routine

Höskuldur also noticed another simple benefit from using Unbroken regularly: he drinks more water.

Each tablet is dissolved in water, so taking Unbroken throughout the day naturally encourages him to stay on top of his hydration.

For a professional footballer training and competing regularly, hydration is another important part of preparation and recovery.

As Höskuldur explains, drinking enough water is something he can otherwise forget.

A routine that has lasted

Höskuldur has tried many different products during his career. His approach is straightforward. If something doesn't work for him, he stops using it.

Unbroken was different.

After first trying it following a friend's recommendation, he continued using it consistently.

"I've tried many products and if I don't like them, I stop using them. I've used Unbroken continuously since I first tried it. It's a great product."

For Höskuldur, the value isn't about one training session or one match. It is about having a recovery routine he can repeat day after day.

27 matches. 2,430 minutes. Every minute played.

Consistency is measured across a season.

In 2024, at age 30, Höskuldur played all 27 Besta deild league matches for Breiðablik and every available minute, totaling 2,430 minutes.

He scored nine league goals and helped Breiðablik win the Icelandic championship. At the end of the season, his performances were recognized when he was named the 2024 Besta deild MVP.

For a player constantly looking for the small percentages that can help him improve, recovery is part of staying available, staying consistent and being ready to go again.

Train. Recover. Ready for the next game.
