Straight from lactic acid to amino acids

Straight from lactic acid to amino acids

Icelandic national cycling champion Bríet Kristý Gunnarsdóttir balances racing at the highest level in Iceland with being a lawyer and a mom. Recovery is what helps her keep all three moving.

Bríet Kristý Gunnarsdóttir is one of Iceland’s leading female cyclists, with national titles across multiple cycling disciplines and consistently strong performances against the clock.

But cycling is only part of her life.

Away from the bike, Bríet is a lawyer and a mom. Training, racing, work and family all have to fit into the same week, which makes recovering quickly and being ready to go again particularly important.

For Bríet, Unbroken has become part of that routine.

“Straight from lactic acid to amino acids!”

Ready before the ride is over

Bríet has a simple habit: before heading out on the bike, she prepares two Unbroken tablets in a glass of water and leaves it waiting in the fridge.

That means recovery is ready when she gets home.

“I always have two Unbroken tablets ready in a glass in the fridge before I go riding.”

She drinks it immediately after training, usually choosing Orange, then keeps topping up the glass with water two or three times as she drinks.

It is a small routine that combines her post-training Unbroken with something equally important after a hard ride: rehydration.

As Bríet puts it, win-win.

From strong legs to national titles

Bríet’s cycling results reflect the consistency behind her training.

She has competed for Iceland internationally and has become a multiple Icelandic national champion across cycling disciplines. She is also particularly strong in the individual time trial, finishing second at the Icelandic Championships in 2024, 2025 and 2026.

In 2026, she went one better on the road, becoming Icelandic Elite Women’s Road Race Champion.

Those results take training. But they also take the ability to recover and come back ready to perform again.

“Absolutely key for speeding up recovery and getting myself ready for the next workout – and life in general.”

Recovery for the rest of life

That last part matters.

Bríet isn't recovering simply so she can ride a bike again. She has a career, a family and everything else waiting when the training session ends.

That is why Unbroken has become such a natural part of her daily routine.

She typically takes one tablet in the morning and Unbroken again around training. Since making it part of her routine, she says she notices the difference in how quickly she bounces back and how fresh she feels the following day.

“It’s amazing how much fresher I feel the next day.”

For someone fitting elite-level cycling ambitions around work and family, being ready for what comes next matters.

Ready for what’s next

For Bríet, what’s next could be another interval, another time trial, a national championship, a day at the office or simply keeping up with family life.

The bike may stop. Her day usually doesn't.

Recover from the ride. Get the legs ready. Get back to life.

Ready for what’s next.
