“This was a really stressful competition week at the world championships in team competition, which is finally coming to an end. A big thanks to Unbroken!!! The recovery time has halved, the average time has never been lower, and everyone is in top form on the way home ?.”

The Icelandic team participated in the Billie Jean 2021 World Cup competition. They ended up in 16th place in the tournament out of 21 participants, which is a good result considering the strength of the competition.

Anna Soffía Grönholm played no. 2 for Iceland against Alina Gavrish in the first game of the day. It was a great game for Anna with a loss of 6-4, 6-3 against a strong opponent who was not afraid to take risks. This tough game could have easily have gone the other way with a little luck.

Sofia Sóley Jónasdóttir played no. 1 for Iceland against Umayru Hashimova from Azerbaijan in the second game of the day. Sofia unfortunately lost the game 7-5, 7-6 (5) in a very volatile game where she led 5-3 in the first set and 4-1 in the 2nd set but lost the lead. The double faults were a little too many and especially at important stages. Sofia, however, played brilliant tennis in the game and deserves praise.

In the doubles match, Anna Soffía Grönholm and Sandra Dís Kristjánsdóttir played together on behalf of Iceland against Umayra Hashimova and Alina Guseynova. A good game for the Icelandic girls, but they lost 6-4, 6-1. They had a few chances in the first set but unfortunately did not manage to take advantage of them. Hashimova also had another tough game. Sandra and Anna were also playing their first doubles match for Iceland and deserve praise for their great rhythm and good cooperation.

This ended Iceland’s participation in the Billie Jean King Cup, the world championship in team competition in 2021, with Jón Axel Jónsson, coach and

Congratulations to the entire team!
